IP 8, 2018-2019, Select (Brantford Community Hockey League)

Friday night we played against a very strong Mt. Hamilton team and had some bad puck luck. Mt. Hamilton managed to score one off of Noah's back and put another goal in on the Power Play. The boys continued to play "Saints" hockey and did not give up. We pulled the goalie and got a couple of chances but eventually gave up the empty netter. 3-0 final. On Saturday the boys hit the road into Guelph and played a great game. They clawed out a tough 5-5 tie that saw the score change hands multiple times. They finally showed Guelph what Saints hockey is all about!!! Stand outs were Myles and Jake M. with 2 goals a piece. On Sunday and Monday the Saints played two very strong games against Cambridge Hawks. On Sunday in Cambridge they played "Saints Hockey" and would not let up until the final buzzer sounded for a 9-1 final score. On Monday they kept their focus and finished the game with a 7-0 win. The boys had a busy weekend being apart of the Stoney Creek Winterfest Tournament this past weekend. They played 4 games over two days and had HL playoffs as well. They played their butts off all weekend and came out with 2 wins and 2 losses. On Friday they played a very strong team from Oakville and kept it to a close 6-4 loss. A couple hours later they played Ajax and won 5-1. Saturday the played Aurora and played possibly their best game of the tournament and won 4-2. This weekend the boys had two tough games. On Friday the boys played Guelph at home and despite being up 3-1 in the second just ran out of gas. Despite strong efforts from the boys they ended up with a 6-3 loss. We will get them back when play them at the end of the month!!! On Sunday they went into Dofasco a determined bunch. All of the attributes the boys have been working on showed in this game. Puck battles were won, crisp passes on the tape, traffic in front of the oppositions net, and strong positioning in our zone for clean break outs led the Saints to 4-2 victory! Another practice ...

Congratulations are due to the entire Major Novice Saints. The played their hearts out all weekend and were eliminated in the Silver Semi-Finals. Game#1 MVP: Sammy Kisac, Game #2 MVP: Connor Vandeven, Game #3 MVP Noah Connolly. The learning curve of this team has been a steady improvement since the start of the year. The boys should be proud of themselves for the way the represented the BCHL. Great work boys! Lots more hockey this month including another tournament in Stoney Creek in two weeks.
