BCHL IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATION FOR TIMEKEEPING FOR THE UPCOMING 2025-2026 HOCKEY SEASON!
Timekeepers play a crucial role in scoring each game, managing the official game clock and recording game details. They work in conjunction with on-ice officials and off-ice officials and coaches to ensure each game runs smoothly and is recorded accurately.
This role is NOT to be taken lightly as games can not be played without a timekeeper present.
Key roles and responsibilities
1. Game Clock Management:
- Starting and stopping the game clock as instructed by the referees.
- Signaling the end of each period and the game.
- Consulting the referee for final decisions in any time disputes.
2. Recording Game Data:
- Accurately documenting the start and finish time of the game, including actual playing time.
- Recording goals, assists, and penalties as instructed by the referees.
- Tracking and communicating information about penalties to the referee, such as a player receiving a second misconduct penalty or a third stick infraction.
3. Pre-game and Post-game Duties:
- Arriving at the arena well before the game to prepare.
- Checking and setting up the game clock and Ipads or paper game sheets.
- Ensuring game sheets (electronic or paper) are properly filled out and signed by team officials and referees.
4. Other Important Details:
- Must be a minimum of 12 years old and be able to work independantly without the assistance of parents.
- Must have reliable transportation or reliable means of getting to the arena on time to avoid delay of games.
- Having a strong knowledge of the rules, especially those pertaining to off-ice officials is recommended.
- Being familiar with the arena's clock and public address system is an asset.
- Maintaining a neutral stance and refraining from cheering or coaching during the game.
- Assisting on-ice officials with administrative tasks as needed.
- Reporting any issues or inappropriate behavior to the referee.
- PLEASE NOTE ***Cell phones are to be put away while working.
- Timekeepers will be paid $15/game
